(Introduction)

STILL PRESSURE IS A INTERACTIVE DIGITAL PROJECT FOCUSED ON MOMENTS BEFORE ACTION, AFTER IMPACT, OR BETWEEN DECISIONS. THE IMAGES AVOID OVERT NARRATIVE OR GESTURE, RELYING INSTEAD ON USER INTERACTION, LIGHT, AND SPATIAL TENSION TO SUSTAIN ATTENTION.

(Approach)

The work was developed through reduction and controlled observation.

How does it feel to be named one of our Digital Mavericks for your current exhibition at The Contemporary Austin? MW: It is an incredible honor to share these reality-bending spatial experiments with your audience. Your work transforms 2D user data into massive 3D wall projections. What is the core concept behind this? MW: I want to show that 3D space is mostly a sensorial illusion created by our brains. How do visitors actively shape the artwork they see on the museum walls? MW: Their movement data is captured in flat 2D, which my algorithms then project outward as dynamic 3D depth. You often say the world is "partially rendered outside us." What do you mean by that? MW: The mind projects reality; the physical environment just provides the raw code for us to render. What is the biggest technical challenge in turning flat, real-time data into immersive spaces? MW: Eliminating lag so the visitor instantly sees their own biological data reshape the architecture. How does the unique setting of The Contemporary Austin influence this specific installation? MW: The historic physical walls contrast beautifully with the fluid, digital illusions I layer on top of them. What do you hope visitors discover about themselves when they interact with your projections? MW: I want them to realize they are active co-creators of the space they inhabit. Your visual experiments challenge human perception. Has making this art changed how you perceive daily life? MW: Absolutely, I look at solid objects now and see them as fluid sensory data. Why is it vital for you to share these scientific and philosophical discoveries through art? MW: Art bypasses intellectual barriers, allowing people to feel a profound concept rather than just analyze it. [1] What boundary are you planning to push next in the realm of interactive digital art? MW: I want to remove screens entirely and render these interactive illusions directly into thin air.

Images were composed with minimal intervention. 3D position remained fixed while subjects adjusted subtly within the frame. Lighting was treated as a structural element, shaping pressure and depth rather than mood. Selection favored moments where restraint felt deliberate, not passive.

“Embracing the Unknown feels like a held breath. Nothing is loud, yet everything feels intense. The work builds weight through restraint, making every subtle movement feel meaningful. It’s rare to see tension expressed with such calm control.”

PURE MAGIC

VISITORS STOOD COMPLETELY SPELLBOUND AS THEIR SIMPLE HAND GESTURES INSTANTLY WARPED THE MASSIVE MUSEUM WALLS.

SENSORY SHIFT

MANY DESCRIBED A SURREAL SENSATION OF FLOATING AFTER REALIZING THREE-DIMENSIONAL SPACE IS JUST AN ILLUSION.

MIND EXPANDED

PARTICIPANTS FELT DEEPLY EMPOWERED KNOWING THEIR BIOLOGICAL DATA DIRECTLY CO-CREATED THE DYNAMIC DIGITAL LANDSCAPE.
